Study at Department of Teacher Education, Aarhus

Department of Teacher Education Aarhus came into existence in 1989 through a merger of two independent  colleges of education.
Housing 150 employees and about 1600 students, Department of Teacher Education Aarhus is situated at Trøjborgvej 82 in the north of Aarhus.
Department of Teacher Education Aarhus educates teachers for the Danish comprehensive school (municipal school combining primary and lower secondary education) as well as teachers of adult education.
The teacher education is a study of four years' duration during which there are several periods of mandatory teaching practice in local comprehensive schools
Students take two or three main subjects during their teacher education, and pedagogical studies are offered throughout the four-year period.
During the final semester, students write a bachelor paper focusing on one of their four main subject areas. Here theory is combined with practice as this is done in close cooperation with the pedagogical subjects, furthermore experience from various teaching practice periods is included.
Many contacts at home and abroad
Department of Teacher Education Aarhus emphasises the importance of maintaining contacts to comprehensive schools, colleges and universities in the local area as well as in Europe and the rest of the world.

Teaching practice

The teaching practice gives students an opportunity to gain knowledge of the Danish school system while offering a basis for forming individual attitudes and values as well as enabling the students to draw comparisons to other school systems.
The duration of the practice period is three weeks.
In groups of two to four, exchange students will make lesson plans, observe and teach 14 lessons per week and have one hour's guidance each week.
