"All doors are open to you and everybody welcomes you. That makes it very simple to meet other people and you hardly ever feel alone."
- Rute, Portugal
Aarhus (Århus) is famous for its varied cultural life and its beautiful position near to the woods and the beach. Even though Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark, its population is only 284,000, and you will quickly be able to find your way around.
The cultural life of Aarhus is influenced by the city’s many students. There are good theatres and a flourishing musical life. Also, the countless cafes in the narrow streets in the city’s charming Latin Quarter and along the Aarhus Å (stream) are worth a visit. In the weekends, you can often listen to live music at these cafes.
You might want to save your Friday afternoons for the Friday café at the Department of Social Work, where students meet across the various classes to round off the week.
Aarhus has an excellent student centre - Studenterhus Århus – with several weekly activities. Many of the events are planned for and by exchange students in Aarhus. The Department of Social Work will automatically enrol you as a member of the Studenterhus Århus and pay your membership fee.
