Szabolcs, Budapest University, Hungary“The best thing at VIA University College is the project work. This is why I wanted to come here – the experience of the international teamwork. I have met some teachers with whom I really enjoy working"...>
A curriculum counsellor will be attached to the international class and will offer counselling of more ordinary character.
Furthermore, the student may require assistance when selecting, e.g. when choosing subjects that involve opting out of other subjects. Other selection situations might be: selection of groups.
Finally, the student has quite a large influence on the planning of the curriculum. Therefore, we find it necessary to pay particular attention to giving the student the necessary insight so he/she gains the qualifications to be able to assume joint responsibility for the curriculum. This requires a high level of information and many interviews.
In extension of the above, the tasks of the curriculum counsellor are multilateral. This concerns several functions:
The informative function:This concerns the terms and structure, the college's study plans and special regulations of education. Counselling and selection at the college: when-does-what-happen?
The guidance function: This concerns guidance in studying, reading and taking notes. Guidance regarding selection of subjects, themes, etc. Various forms of work and collaboration as well as forms of information.
The advisory function:This concerns the individual student's study-related situation: support for clarification of personal goals, choice of areas of interest and special study choices. Discussion of study-related difficulties that can restrict or threaten the progress of the studies, e.g. failing attendance, transfer to another college, considerations regarding sabbatical leave, etc.
The supervising function:This concerns the evaluation of the student's study-related situation individually as well as in teams and groups and guidance and counselling in this connection.
The curriculum counselling is built on information from the student, the curriculum counsellor's own observations as well as information from subject teachers and in-service providers.
The curriculum counselling must support the individual student and be included as part of the continuous evaluation.
The student is trained in evaluating his/her own efforts and the benefits of the study work.
The study guidance planning:A part of the study guidance will be included in a class relation or team relation and can be timetabled. In addition, individual study guidance is arranged with the individual student. Finally, the study guidance can be carried out in smaller groups, e.g. study groups, or with several teams at the same time.
The logbook scheme supports the study guidance:The logbook will be introduced on the 1st semester and follows the student's education. The logbook is an individual and public work material, a tool for vocational and personal reflection on the content of the education and the student's own commitment.
Vocational guidance and achievement assessmentThe individual teacher is obligated to provide the student with vocational guidance. Vocational guidance is understood as comments to and evaluation of the student's vocational knowledge, level and ability. The vocational guidance is expressed by, among other things, achievement assessments.
The achievement assessment is assessed as Approved / Not approved.
