Research Centre

VIA University College, Faculty of Health Sciences, is a partner in the Regional Nursing Research Centre, which is based on a collaborative agreement with Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia and Region Middle Jutland in Denmark.

This partnership was established to encourage and facilitate research that makes a difference in the clinical area and provides opportunities for research ‘at the coal-face’ for the sharing of information, experiences and research findings in the clinical practice.

The Center in Viborg was founded in 2005, and in 2007 an agreement was signed, and a center was established in Holstebro in the beginning of 2008.

Besides research projects, the centre invites nurses and bachelor students in a sort of ‘green house’ arrangements to cultivate and support nurses with interest in research and development projects in making plans for their competence development, writing PhD applications, etc.

Current research projects are:

Life history research
On 1 August 2008, the Research and Development Department at VIA University College started a research project called "The Life History Research Programme".

The backgrounds of this research project and other new projects are pilot projects on “Survival and sustainability in the professional career focusing on nurses at the beginning, middle and end of their careers”, which was completed in 2007.

Hospital stays for men and women suffering from acute coronary syndrome
Weight control in severely overweight children – barriers and opportunities seen from a participant’s perspective.

Experience and treatment of pain after surgical intervention
From 31 October 2005 to 7 May 2006, Viborg Hospital collected data for a research project on post-operative experiences and treatment of pain. Just over 500 patients were involved in the project and the results are currently being analysed.
